Packing up for the UAV Expo in Vegas this week. Before I go — heads up on something worth 2 minutes of your time.

The FCC is looking at a rule that would lump a lot of our everyday consumer/prosumer drones in with “military-grade” gear, just because of things like LiDAR or thermal cameras — tech that’s already in your phone, your car, and half the gadgets in your house. If it goes through as written, it could hit small drone businesses, search and rescue teams, and first responders pretty hard.

Not trying to be dramatic about it, just think the people who actually fly and rely on this stuff should have a say before it’s locked in.

If you want to weigh in: comment at fcc.gov/ecfs (Docket PS 26-189), deadline is Sept 2. And it wouldn’t hurt to shoot your senators/rep a quick note too.
